Scripture: 2 Kings 15:8-15 Observation: Being the king of Israel was not a secure job. Application: Deja Vue, after a while the names begin to sound alike and the story seems to repeat itself over and over again. Someone assassinates the reigning king and takes the throne for themselves, only to live a life of fear and anxiety, until it happens to them. Scripture: 2 Kings 14:11-15 Observation: Amaziah, king of Judah, picks a fight with the Israelite king Jehoash and is soundly defeated. Application: Although we're living in different times, the lesson is still relevant for us today, don't pick a fight with a bully. Amaziah wins a battle against the Edomites and decides he wants more. Whether he assumed that God would be with him against the Israelites is uncertain but he provokes king Jehoash and suffers the consequences. Scripture: 2 Kings 13:22-23 Observation: The author explains why God continues to extend mercy to the Israelites despite their disobedience. Application: I don't understand why God is merciful, but I certainly appreciate His mercies every time I benefit. Prayer: Lord, I can only imagine... 2 Kings 12 - Day 474 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 2 Kings 12:1-6 Observation: Joash instructs the priests to make the necessary repairs to the temple but for whatever reason, nothing was done for 23 years. Application: It took Joash a while but he finally allowed his frustration to motivate him to hold the priests accountable. If it takes hiring professionals to complete the job, then hire skilled artisans. Prayer: Lord, use me to do Your will... 2 Kings 11 - Day 473 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 2 Kings 11:1-3 Observation: Upon hearing that her son, King Ahaziah was dead, Athaliah secures the throne for herself by murdering the rest of the royal family. Application: Ahaziah's sister Jehosheba saves her nephew Joash. The bible doesn't tell us anything about this girl or why she did what she did but we know that she did a courageous thing and the kingdom of God advanced. Prayer: Here I am Lord, send me... |
