Luke 10 - Day 409 (link to today's reading)
Scriptural Luke 10:17-20 Observation: In Chapter 9, Jesus sends out the 12 apostles (messengers) to manifest the Kingdom of God, and here he sends out seventy-two others to do the same. Application: This is how a small group of apprentices grew to nearly 1/2 the population of the Roman empire in less than 300 years. What would happen if today's church took Jesus' words seriously? Prayer: Holy Spirit, help us to be apprentices of our Lord Jesus who make apprentices... Luke 9 - Day 408 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Luke 9:1-2 Observation: Jesus gives his twelve apprentices the power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all sorts of diseases and then sends them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. Application: Jesus came to earth to reconcile the world back to the Father and in the process manifested the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth by casting out demons and healing the sick. An apprentice learns to do what their master/instructor teaches them to do. The first apprentices then taught others to manifest the Kingdom of God and in turn, the process kept repeating itself until Constantine legalized Christianity in 313 A.D. The world would be dramatically different if we manifested the Kingdom of God in our daily lives. Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to be like you. Luke 8 - Day 407 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Luke 8:28 Observation: Jesus encounters a demon-possessed man who is afraid of being tortured. Application: Upon the final judgment, will demons be tortured? Or have they been deceived, like humans, by the father of lies? Jesus allows the demons to enter a herd of swine which seems inconsistent with the future tormenting theory. Our enemy will do everything in his power to steal our hope, kill our dreams and destroy our lives. Be strong and steadfast, for if God is for us, then who can be against us. Prayer: Lord, help me to live what I know to be true. Luke 7 - Day 406 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Luke 7:1-17 Observation: Jesus has compassion for a widow and raises her son from the dead and the news spread throughout Judea. Application: The religious leaders question Jesus' practices as he repeatedly breaks the commandments. However, Jesus manifests the Kingdom of God here on earth, and the news of his miraculous works spread throughout the region. Instead of embracing Jesus as the long-anticipated Messiah, the religious leaders are offended by his disregard for their rules. Am I acting like a pharisee in any way? Prayer: Search my heart O God... Luke 6 - Day 405 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Luke 6:27-36 Observation: Jesus teaches the crowds to love your enemies. Application: How do you love someone who has hurt and abused you? Jesus says to bless them and pray for them. I guess this would certainly differentiate an apprentice of Christ from the world. Prayer: Holy Spirit, I need your help to do this. |
