Exodus 6 - Day 59 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 6:9-12 Observation: God instructs Moses to convince his fellow Israelites that He will deliver them from Pharaoh, however it appears that God has to convince Moses first. Application: Sometimes we're going to face situations that just seem impossible for us to accomplish but we know that's what God wants us to do. These are the opportunities that strengthen our faith when we trust God to accomplish His will in and through us. Prayer: Lord, Your will be done. Exodus 5 - Day 58 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 5:2 Observation: Moses and Aaron meet with Pharaoh to ask him to release the Israelites so they can go worship their God. Pharaoh scoffs at their request and lays heavier burdens on the workers. Application: There will be opposition to change within an existing hierarchy. Expect challenges, choose to persevere and cry out to God. Prayer: Lord, help us to trust and obey You and Your commandments. Exodus 4 - Day 57 (link to daily reading)
Scripture: Exodus 4:1-17 Observation: Moses objects to God's request for him to return to Egypt. Application: Moses tries to negotiate and makes one excuse after another for not being able to be God's representative, until finally the "anger of the Lord burned against Moses" (NASB). Whatever that meant or looked like, it was effective in finally convincing Moses to acquiesce to God's commands. God loves us so much that He'll meet us where we are at, but loves us too much to leave us there. Even if that means that His anger burns against us to get us moving. Prayer: Lord, forgive me for dragging my feet and resisting Your instructions. Exodus 3 - Day 56 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 3:1-3 Observation: Moses' curiosity gets him to explore a burning bush that didn't burn up. God used that opportunity to give him an offer that he couldn't refuse. Application: I've often joked about Moses wishing that he never spoke to the burning bush but God knew that's what he needed in order to be sanctified. Sometimes God gets our attention to give us an opportunity that we can't refuse. Prayer: Lord, I trust that You know what's best for me so please fulfill Your will in and through me. Exodus 2 - Day 55 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 2:1-9 Observation: At the end of chapter 1, Pharaoh gives an order to throw every newborn Hebrew boy into the Nile River. In chapter 2, a couple from the tribe of Levi have a baby boy and the mother tries to save him. After 3 months of hiding him, she was unable to do so any longer and is forced to obey Pharaoh's command. However, she strategically places him in the Nile River and has his older sister watch to see what would happen to him. Pharaoh's daughter walks by with her attendants and she shows compassion to the infant child. The boy's sister runs up to the princess and asks her, “Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” She says yes, names the baby boy Moses, adopts him, and agrees to pay his mother to nurse him for her. Application: It doesn't always work out that way, but when it does, Praise God! Prayer: Thank You for showing me compassion and adopting me into Your family. |
