Proverbs 26 - Day 591 (link to reading)
Scripture: Proverbs 26:4-5 Commentary (theberean.org): In his article, "Is Proverbs in Contradiction on Answering Fools?" James Patrick Holding feels that the alleged contradiction between Proverbs 26:4-5 wins a major award for silliness. What we have here is not contradiction, but dilemma—an indication that when it comes to answering fools, you cannot win—because they are fools, and there is no practical cure for foolery (as this citation demonstrates). So: It is unwise to argue with a fool at his own level and recognize his own foolish suppositions, but it is good sometimes to refute him soundly, lest his foolishness seem to be confirmed by your silence. Application: I've learned, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, that you can't change someone's mind, even family and friends, with reason and logic. Instead, love them to God's best for their lives, while questioning the validity and source of their reasoning. Prayer: Lord, give us Your wisdom... Psalm 58 & 59 - Day 590 (link to reading)
Scripture: Psalm 59:16-17 Observation: David composes another psalm/song beseeching the Lord to protect him from his enemies. Application: Like us, David has people who come against him. He struggles with anxiety and questions where God is at times. Yet, despite the hopelessness communicated in his ranting, David comes back to trusting YHWH. Prayer: Search me oh God... Psalm 56 & 57 - Day 589 (link to reading)
Scripture: Psalm 56 Observation: Even in despair, David proclaims his faith in God. Application: “Matthew Henry, the Puritan preacher and Bible commentator, made this statement after a thief stole his money: ‘Let me be thankful first because I was never robbed before; second, although they took my purse, they did not take my life; third, because, although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.’” Prayer: Lord, teach me to be like Your servants David and Matthew Henry... Psalm 54 & 55 - Day 588 (link to reading)
Scripture: Psalm 54 Observation: David pleads with God to rescue him from his enemies. Application: Whenever I need help, I'll ask the person who has the capability to solve my problem. I'm not going to ask someone who can't help me. David humbles himself and cries out to the One who is capable of doing all things. Prayer: Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy... 1 Chronicles 29 - Day 587 (link to reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-19 Observation: David praises YHWH for all that he and his people have received. Application: Each and every day is a gift from God, so don't take it for granted. When we humble ourselves and acknowledge our limitations, we will find peace and be ready to do His will. Prayer: Lord God, make me and Your people want to obey you and see to it that our love for You never changes... |
