Proverbs 25 - Day 492 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Proverbs 25:26 Commentary: A righteous man who lets his reputation be compromised is like pure water being tainted and ruined by mud or other pollutants. The value of a pure spring or well in an arid country lends force to the statement. Once a spring or well is contaminated it may never be pure again, and disappoints those who come to it for a drink. A righteous person who defects to sin disappoints others who look to him. Walvoord, J. F., & Zuck, R. B., Dallas Theological Seminary. (1985). The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 1, p. 961). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books. Application: Integrity matters to God so be vigilant in keeping your heart pure. Remember that God is more concerned about who we are becoming than what we are doing so check your motives before committing to anything. Prayer: Lord, have mercy on me a sinner... Proverbs 24 - Day 491 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Proverbs 24:17-22 Commentary: The explicit theology of this instruction occurs in the second prohibition: Yahweh is displeased when one rejoices over the fall of one’s enemies (24:17–18). It is Yahweh who oversees the just order of society, which has its grounding in the righteousness of the cosmos. Yahweh is the one who will see to it that the enemies of the righteous receive their punishment. Consequently, it is wrong for the wise youth to rejoice over the fall of their enemies. Gloating is a vice that is to be avoided even when one’s enemies suffer. Perdue, L. G. (2000). Proverbs (pp. 214–215). Louisville, KY: John Knox Press. Application: Life is too short to hold grudges and hope that bad people will suffer the consequences in our lifetime. This text reminds me to be gracious since I have received grace. Prayer: Lord, help me to be Your conduit of love and grace... Psalm 52 & 53 - Day 490 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Psalm 53:1-2 Observation: The Pslamist recognizes the unfortunate position of a fool. Application: A fool is someone who acts as if they know everything and is, therefore, unwilling to reconsider their perspectives. Don't be a fool. Prayer: Lord, please give me eyes to see the world as You see it... Psalm 50 & 51 - Day 489 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Psalm 50:14-15 Observation: The Psalmist declares the greatness of God and identifies what He wants from us. Application: What do you get someone who has everything? The Creator of the universe does not need anything from us, but like any parent would appreciate our gratitude and for us to keep our word. Prayer: Mahalo nui loa Ke Akua.... Psalm 48 & 49 - Day 488 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Psalm 49:14-20 Observation: The Psalmist takes comfort in knowing that God will redeem him when he dies. Application; In the end, everyone will die and be accountable to God for our actions and attitudes. The rich will be judged next to the poor, for God doesn't care about how wealthy we were while alive. No, He's only concerned about what we did with everything that He entrusted to us. To whom much is given, much will be required. Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your grace... |
