Psalm 70 & 71 - Day 740 (link to reading)
Scripture: Psalm 70 Commentary (workingpreacher.org): Psalm 70 is a prayer from an individual, almost a kind of sigh from this person of faith who seeks divine protection, perhaps manifested in the sanctuary. The speaker is among those who consider themselves to be deeply devoted servants of God. Some would place the psalm among prayers from the post-exilic Israelite communities, but the prayer is difficult to date. The psalm is framed with repetitions in its first and last verses, phrases that speak of the urgent need for God’s help. Application: Everyone experiences challenges in their lives, even devoted servants of God. Praise the Lord, that we have someone to turn to whenever the "going gets tough." Prayer: Lord, I am poor and needy, please hurry... Acts 28 - Day 739 (link to reading)
Scripture: Acts 28:3-6 Observation: Paul, the other prisoners and the entire crew make it safely to the island of Malta. As he's gathering wood for a fire, he is bitten by a poisonous snake and the islanders assume that he was cursed because justice was being served. However, when Paul didn't die, they worshipped him as a god. Application: There are so many lessons in this final chapter but let's end with the fact that God's plans will be accomplished, regardless of shipwrecks and poisonous snakes. Prayer: Lord, have mercy on me a sinner... Acts 27 - Day 738 (link to reading)
Scripture: Acts 27:10-12 Observation: The sailor's disregard Paul's advice, most likely because he wasn't a sailor. Application: I get it. I totally understand why the sailors chose to disregard Paul's warning and sail to Phoenix so that they could spend the winter in a better harbor. However, sometimes we just need to be open to other options because the logical choice isn't always the right choice. How do we know when to forego the standard operating procedure? When a man/woman of God tells you differently. Prayer: Lord, shape me to be Your representative here on earth... Acts 26 - Day 737 (link to reading)
Scripture: Acts 26:26-32 Observation: Paul shares his testimony with King Agrippa. Application: You need to strike when the iron is hot. Meaning that we need to take every opportunity to represent Christ, but in order to do that, we need to be prepared. Paul has spent the past 20 years preparing for this moment that was prophesied to him. Do what it takes to grow in your relationship with Jesus. Prayer: Lord, show me what's next... Acts 25 - Day 736 (link to reading)
Scripture: Acts 25:13-22 Observation: When Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he was told that he would represent Christ to the gentiles, even kings. It’s been over 20 years since Paul’s conversion and his vision is finally coming to fruition. Application: God fulfills His will in His time. Endure, persevere, hang on to His promises to complete His will in and through me. Prayer: Lord, thank you for the reminder that You are faithful. |
