1 Kings 12 - Day 440 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Kings 12:1-15 Observation: Solomon dies and his son Rehoboam becomes king. Application: Like father, like son. Rehoboam disregards the advice of the older men and instead adopts the counsel of his peers and suddenly the kingdom is split between the Judah (and part of Ephraim) and the other 10 tribes. However, verse 15 reveals that this was God's will for Solomon's disobedience. Prayer: Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace... 1 Kings 11 - Day 439 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Kings 11:1-13 Observation: Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Application: Wisdom and knowledge are useless if you don't put what you know into practice. The Lord warned the Israelites not to marry foreign women because they would turn their hearts to other gods. Sure enough, Solomon's wives influenced him to worship the detestable god of Moab, the Ammonites, and Sidonians. Prayer: Lord, have mercy on me a sinner... 1 Kings 10 - Day 438 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Kings 10:14-29 Observation: Solomon used the benefits that accompanied his position to make numerous gold shields, a huge throne overlaid with gold, and golden figurines of lions and other animals. Application: Solomon behaved and did the things that kings did. He acquired great wealth and spent it on himself. Thank God that Jesus doesn't care about gold and thrones or figurines. Prayer: Lord of all creation, help me to value what You value... 1 Kings 9 - Day 437
Scripture: 1 Kings 9:10-14 Observation: Solomon gives king Hiram twenty towns in the land of Galilee as payment for the timber and gold. Application: Although Solomon was the wisest man on the earth, he wasn't generous. For reasons beyond our understanding, Solomon gifts Hiram questionable towns as payment for the goods and services he received. Why would Solomon do that? Prayer: Lord, help me to represent You as You truly are, in all of my thoughts and actions... 1 Kings 8 - Day 436 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Kings 8:5 Observation: Solomon summoned the priests and elders to bring up the Ark of the Covenant to the new temple. Application: Solomon and the entire community of Israel worshipped God with all of their heart, mind, soul, strength, and pocketbooks. They sacrificed so many sheep, goats, and cattle that no one could keep count. Wow! Praise the Lord with your actions and not just your words. Prayer: Glory to the Lord on High... |
