Matthew 14 - Day 110 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Matthew 14:22-33 Observation: Jesus takes a stroll on the lake during a storm and uses the opportunity to teach his disciples about faith. Application: Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water but got distracted and began to sink. Before we criticize Peter for getting distracted and taking his eyes off of Jesus, let's appreciate the fact that he was and is the only human being, other than Jesus to have walked on water. None of the other disciples stepped out of the boat, but in order to accomplish anything in the Kingdom of God, we need to take steps of faith. Prayer: Lord, increase my faith and help me step out of my comfort zone. Matthew 13 - Day 109 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Matthew 13:1-23 Observation: Jesus teaches the crowds with a parable of a farmer scattering seed. Application: I always wondered how someone could profess Jesus as their Lord and then disappear never to be seen again. We have a responsibility to grow in our relationship with God. Prayer: Lord, please help me see and hear You clearly. Matthew 12 - Day 108 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Matthew 12:38 Observation: Some teachers of the law and religious leaders approach Jesus and ask him to verify his authority with a miracle. Application: Jesus isn't opposed to manifesting the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth with miraculous healings or casting out demons. What he abhors is the circus show attitude of skeptics who want to be entertained. It's as if they were saying, "Prove it. Prove that you're who you say you are." These leaders came with a "When I see it, I'll believe it" attitude. The key to the Kingdom of Heaven is believing that Jesus is the Messiah, and then you will have eyes to see. Prayer: Lord, please increase my faith to believe. Matthew 11 - Day 107 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Matthew 11:2-3 Observation: John the Baptist sends his apprentices/disciples to ask Jesus, "What's up?" Application: Our perception of reality is often defined by our circumstances. Even though John baptized Jesus and recognized that he was not worthy to carry his sandals, he has a moment of doubt and questions Jesus' intentions. Jesus does not rescue John and allows him to be beheaded. Ouch. The Kingdom of Heaven will advance with or without us. Prayer: Lord, I don't understand so help me to trust You. Matthew 10 - Day 106 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Matthew 10:1-8 Observation: After Jesus gives his apprentices the authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness, he sends them out to declare that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand/near (meaning that you can reach out and touch it). Application: Although the bible doesn't tell us how long Jesus has been training his disciplcies/apprentices, we know that they've been with him day and night observing him manifest the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth. An apprentice is expected to mimic his master's methodology by practicing every detail. As a follower of Christ, we are apprentices of Jesus who are expected to carry on our master's legacy. Prayer: Lord, refresh me with Your Holy Spirit. Renew my faith and present opportunities for me to manifest Your Kingdom here on earth, as it is in heaven. |
