Leviticus 9 - Day 136 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Leviticus 9:22-24 Observation: The priests begin their work by following the Lord's instructions for the various sacrificial offerings. Application: Repetition is a good thing. Especially considering that all the Jewish boys were taught to memorize the Torah, the first 5 books of the Old Testament by the age of 13. Repeating the procedures for the various offerings also gives us a greater appreciation for the gift of grace. Prayer: Lord, thank You for helping us remember what's important. Leviticus 8 - Day 135 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Leviticus 8 Observation: Moses ordains Aaron and sons by following all of God's instructions and anointing them with oil to make them holy. Application: Oil represented many things in the Old Testament, but here in Leviticus 8, the oil represented the holiness of God. Thankfully we do not have to sacrifice any bulls and rams in order to be sanctified. Tae the time to appreciate the gift of the new covenant in Jesus. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the Holy Spirit who makes us holy. (link to reading plan)
Leviticus 7 - Day 134 Scripture: Leviticus 7:22-27 Commentary: The priests were responsible to clean the altar periodically and to dispose of the fat ashes outside the camp. Also they were to keep a fire burning continually on the altar so that the people might be in continual fellowship with God. Similarly, from the day of their anointing the priests were to offer a morning and an evening grain offering. These requirements emphasize that the priests themselves had to maintain continual fellowship with God. So too under the new covenant, each believer, who is a priest himself, must maintain daily fellowship with God. This demand requires effort, including the daily preparation to approach God. Hartley, J. E. (1992). Leviticus (Vol. 4, p. 102). Dallas: Word, Incorporated. Application: As the Apostle Peter declares, "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood" so it is essential for us to maintain fellowship with God. Prayer: Lord, here I am. Your servant is listening... Leviticus 6 - Day 133 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Leviticus 6:1-7 Observation: When guilty of sinning against an associate we are to make restitution in full plus an additional 20 percent to the person we have harmed. Application: In a world where humans are not accountable to God, anything goes and human beings can do as we please because no one really knows what we're thinking. However, in a world where God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent then we are accountable for our actions and will think twice before choosing to sin against our neighbors. Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner. Leviticus 5 - Day 132 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Leviticus 5:1-13 Observation: When we realize that we've unknowingly done something that makes us unclean, we are to admit our guilt and make amends. Application: We are accountable for our sins and must atone for our wrongdoing based on our ability. Notice that God doesn't demand more from us than we can afford. Prayer: Lord, forgive me for my trespasses as I forgive those who have trespassed against me. |
