John 21 - Day 263 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: John 21:25 Observation: John concludes his gospel by dispelling a rumor and sharing an observation. Application: We live in a world where we have access to libraries of information at our fingertips. There have been tens of thousands of books written about Jesus, Christianity, salvation, grace and so many other spiritual subjects to influence an unbeliever to Christ, that it would take decades for a person to filter through all of it. John wrote his good news story about Jesus so that a person could read it and believe that he is the Son of God who came to take away the sins of the world and reconcile us back to his Father God. Personally I prefer the latter option. Prayer: Lord, I believe in you... John 20 - Day 262 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: John 20:1-30 Observation: Our author concludes his "good news" testimony by clarifying his purpose in writing his exposition. Application: Do my actions reflect my beliefs? Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus for giving me the tools to build my faith that I may have life in Your name. John 19 - Day 261 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: John 19:23-42 Observation: So many gems in today’s reading: the soldiers cast lots for Jesus’ garments & after He gives up his Spirit, He is pierced to fulfill the scriptures (Psalm 22:18 & Isaiah 52:13 - 53:12); even on the cross Jesus is concerned about His mother Mary; Joseph of Arimathea was a secret disciple of Jesus because he feared the Jewish leaders but upon Jesus’ death, he revealed his position by burying his Lord. Application: Regardless of which text I choose to write about, I am humbled and grateful for my Lord’s sacrifice. Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus. John 18 - Day 260 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: John 18:37-40 Observation: With the aide of Judas, the Jewish leaders arrested Jesus, sentenced Him to die, then ushered Him to Pilot, the Roman Governor of Judea, to fulfill the prophecy. However, Pilot is perplexed by Jesus' demeanor and attempts to release Him. The religious leaders incited the crowd to free Barabbas instead of Jesus. Application: Truth is universal, regardless of whether or not you believe it. For example, you can choose to not believe in "gravity" but if you step off a cliff, you will fall. Hence, Pilot was confused by Jesus. Most prisoners standing before him would have begged for their lives, but Jesus did not. Rather, Jesus challenged Pilot's worldview and it made him uncomfortable. Ironically, Pilot tried to set Jesus free, but the truth of the matter is that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The way to the Father is through Him. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for this gift of life we have through Your Son. Help me to live in Your truth. Scripture: John 17:1-3 Observation: Jesus continues His theological discourse and reveals the key to eternal life - "know" God and Jesus. Application: When we truly "know" something to be true, we will act accordingly. At this point, the disciples did not know that Jesus was the Son of God. It was only after His resurrection that they came to believe. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for this gift of life we have through Your Son Jesus. Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to die for my sins. Please help me to truly know You and the power of Your resurrection. |
