Scripture: 2 Corinthians 7:5-13 Observation: Paul defends his rebuke of the Corinthians in his first letter to them because his correction helped them repent. Application: Repentance is more than just saying sorry. Repentance changes us by drawing us away from our sins and transforming the way we think about something, especially our actions. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:3-13 Observation: Paul shares the hardships that he has endured as God's messenger. Application: Paul willingly sacrificed his life for the sake of the gospel and that's why God was able to use him throughout the Roman empire. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:11-21 Observation: Paul exhorts the Corinthians to accept and pursue God's calling for them. Application: We are no longer the same person we were before we surrendered our life to Jesus. God is transforming us into the image of His Son Jesus. Alleluia! Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:4 Observation: Paul explains why people can't believe that Jesus is God. Application: Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12 (NIV). Knowing the truth helps us understand how the world really works. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:7-18 Commentary: At this point in the Pauline statement of the apostolic ministry, we are now prepared for a series of contrasts in which the old and the new covenants are discussed together. There are three lines of approach which the apostle takes. Vv 7–11 express two of them. First, the law set the standard, but offered no power to reach it... Second, Paul goes on to teach that the law had an honorable purpose, but it was only temporary.... All of this contrast adds up to one firm conclusion: the Christian ministry is meant, by divine intention, to supersede the old Judaic ceremonial order. The glory of God is to be sought now, not in the law or the Temple or the priesthood, but in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Cor 4:6; Titus 2:13)... Martin, R. P. (1986). 2 Corinthians (Vol. 40, p. 73). Here, Paul explains "why" others can't comprehend the truth that Jesus is the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world.
