Job 16 - Day 1021 (link to reading)
Scripture: Job 16:1-5 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): This is Job’s fourth response. He makes it clear that if he was in their position he would stop trying to get the last word in and speak encouragement with tenderness. Do you know anyone like this? Sometimes in trying to get their point across, and change your mind, they lose sight of grace in their speech. Application: Who could use a listening ear right now? Pick up your phone and give them a call. If you can't think of anyone at the moment, call someone to give them an encouraging word. Prayer: Lord have mercy... Job 15 - Day 1020 (link to reading)
Scripture: Job 15 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): The first round of these ‘friends’ advising Job ended and now the second round hits and is more direct and harsh. Eliphaz opens his mouth and comes out firing with rude, intense and destructive words. He says nothing new. Same argument, different conversation. His terminology and thoughts drip arrogance. The overarching theme is Job is lost in his own wisdom and reliance on God. In essence Eliphaz has discredited everything Job said. He doesn’t believe he is innocent. Doesn’t believe Job has a relationship with God. He doesn’t believe Job prays but instead continues to hammer Job is guilty. Application: Just because you think you're "right" doesn't mean you are. Job's companions arrogantly judged their friend without all the facts. If I were honest with myself, I'd have to admit that I've done the same. Thank God that He knows all the facts and still loves us. Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner... Job 14 - Day 1019 (link to reading)
Scripture: Job 14:1-15 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): We live life in all the ups and downs, all the heartache and joys, all the suffering and wellness and in light of what is after this life, it is simply a small dot. Our life is brief. I think we need to be reminded of this. What we do with this life we have is of utmost importance. Many times we all become lax in our following Jesus. We think there’s time later to make a difference. We get so caught up in some situation we lose track of the brevity of life itself. Job has been struggling with sickness, pain, loneliness, disappointment and so far has really spoken toward the unfairness life can suddenly bring. What is so astounding here in his lament about death is he hopes for a resurrection from the grave. Why this is significant is within the Old Testament, there’s not a lot said about the resurrection of the dead. Jesus had not come yet. He had not conquered the grave. Yet Job spoke with hope of something greater beyond this life. Application: God's children are promised eternal life (knowing God the Father and Jesus - John 17:3), but while alive, we have an opportunity to make our life count. Prayer: Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy... Job 13 - Day 1018 (link to reading)
Scripture: Job 13:15 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): The absolute trust Job has in God despite the afflictions he continues to deal with, the friends that are off base in their advice, the unanswered questions still looming are nothing short than amazing. Job has been rattled to the very core of his being. He has chosen to still trust in God despite the wave of hardship and physical turbulence. I pause a moment and consider, could I say the same thing? Would my own feelings state the same trust? It’s hard to know but definitely is something worth considering. It is easy to trust God in the good times, not so much when those times turn sour or tragic. God desires so much for His people to trust in Him throughout every situation in life, even when He appears silent... Application: Our faith in God is revealed in our response to the trials and tribulations that we endure. Prayer: Lord have mercy on me a sinner... Job 12 - Day 1017 (link to reading)
Scripture: Job 12:7-10 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): Job has had enough. These so called friends of his have all taken their first round of criticizing. His rebuttal drips sarcasm. In essence, his words mock their own ‘wise’ thoughts as they’re acting like they have the skinny, the inside scoop to his affliction. Compounding to their arrogance, they’ve boasted their knowledge of God and His ways. Job confronts them with the fact everyone knows these thoughts about God. They’ve not stated anything new. These friends were narrow-minded, held opinions that were incorrect and had the compassion and insight of a mule. Application: Job continues his rebuttal, implying that he is still engaged. I would not have been able to endure their accusations and walked out because it's easier. God is steadfast and continues to engage, regardless of our immature behavior. Prayer: Lord have mercy... |
