Song of Solomon 4 - Day 1077 (link to reading)
Scripture: Song of Solomon 4 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): There is no doubt Solomon’s bride took his breath away, refreshing him like a fountain. The question to consider for those married today is could your spouse say the same of you? Do you speak words of tenderness and praise the other for their beauty? Unfortunately, sometimes the longer a marriage goes, the more familiarity sets in and what is forgotten is the feelings once had for the other of such a deep love and how they refresh you. Many a marriage tend to neglect these things through time. As a married couple, and in particular as the husband, you have a duty to refresh your wife with praise. This is done through the encouraging word, that of an unexpected gift, making every effort to love your wife as Christ loved the church. Application: Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church. He gave us his life for her (Ephesians 5:25) Prayer: Lord, reign in Your power...

Song of Solomon 3 - Day 1076 (link to reading)
Scripture: Song of Solomon 3 Commentary (thewarehouse.blog): The maiden longs for her lover. Still yet to be married, the next few chapters will unroll the engagement, marriage and consummation of the 2 lovers love. Intensely, she longed for him to be close. In the middle of the night, she would seek him just to be close. It is a picture of genuine love as the 2 wait for the union of themselves as husband and wife. In an interesting statement, Glickman wrote of this, “Love not only brings a greater experience of joy, but a deeper capacity for pain as well. So as the joy of the kings’ presence became greater, so the sorrow from his absence became deeper.” The maiden feels incomplete without her beloved near... Application: Like the maiden, we should feel incomplete without Jesus. Prayer: Lord, reign in me... Song of Solomon 2 - Day 1075 (link to reading)
Scripture: Song of Solomon 2 Commentary (workingpreacher.org): The Song celebrates faithful human love. For that reason alone, it could be argued, the Song deserves a place in Scripture. In a culture saturated with sexual images but sorely lacking in prominent examples of lifelong faithful love, this text celebrates love between a man and a woman that is marked by mutuality and fidelity. But such an interpretation of the Song does not exhaust the possibilities inherent in the text. Pre-modern interpreters saw in this poetry a description and celebration of the love between God and Israel/the Church. Such an interpretation can look to other biblical passages for support. The metaphor of marriage for the relationship between God and God’s people is attested in several biblical books. It is a relatively small step to see the Song as an extension of that metaphor, describing in more detail the extravagant love of God for God’s people and (at last) the faithful love of the people for God. Application: God loves you more than you think. Prayer: Lord, give me eyes to see You... Song of Solomon 1 - Day 1074 (link to reading)
Scripture: Song of Solomon 1: Summary (thewarehouse.blog): The Life Application Bible states the setting beautifully. Solomon frequently visited parts of his kingdom. It would be on one day he visited the Northern vineyards when his eyes fell upon a beautiful peasant woman. Embarrassed to be seen by the King she ran but Solomon could not forget her. Later he would dress like a shepherd and returned to find this young lady who had caught his eye. He won her love, revealed who he was and asked her to return to Jerusalem with him where they were married, which is where the book begins. The book is a series of 7 poems not necessarily in order. The focus is the initial meeting, their engagement, wedding, wedding night and growth of their marriage. As the book opens, a vivid description of their love relationship is cast. Love being more delightful than wine makes the 2 rejoice in the company of one another. As you read the book consider the depth of genuine love that is captured here where God has brought two together as one. Application: Like Solomon, God pursued us when we ran away from Him. Prayer: Lord, show me Your face... Psalm 148, 149 & 150 - Day 1073 (link to reading)
Scripture: Psalm: 150 Commentary (enduringword.com): Each of the five divisions of the Book of Psalms closes with a doxology (Psalm 41:13, 72:18-19, 89:52, 106:48). This entire psalm can be seen as a doxology that not only closes the fifth and final volume of the collected psalms, but also closes the entire Book of Psalms. Psalm 150 contains no argument, no real teaching, no real explanation. It is an eloquent, passionate cry to all creation to give Yahweh the praise due to Him. “The psalm is more than an artistic close of the Psalter: it is a prophecy of the last result of the devout life, and, in its unclouded sunniness, as well as in its universality, it proclaims the certain end of the weary years for the individual and for the world.” (Alexander Maclaren) Application: Let everything that has breath, paise the Lord! Prayer: Hallelujah... |
