1 Chronicles 5 & 6 - Day 565 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 5:1-2 Commentary: The lineage of Reuben is introduced by an explanation of that tribe’s fall from divine favor and replacement by Judah. As Jacob’s firstborn, Reuben would ordinarily expect to be the son through whom the leadership and covenant blessing would be transmitted. But Reuben committed adultery with his father’s concubine Bilhah (Gen. 35:22), and so forfeited his privileges. The right of primogeniture then fell to Joseph (i.e., Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, Gen. 48:15–22), though through Judah came a ruler (David), and through him the Ruler, Jesus Christ (cf. comments on Gen. 49:8–12). Merrill, E. H. (1985). 1 Chronicles. In J. F. Walvoord & R. B. Zuck (Eds.), The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 1, p. 596). Victor Books. Application: Like Reuben, we too have sinned against God. However, we have the advantage of Jesus' forgiveness. Cherish this gift of life we have received by God's grace. Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner... Comments are closed.
