Scripture: 2 Samuel 11:1 Observation: Instead of leading his troops into battle, David stays behind in Jerusalem. Application: The book of Romans tells us that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." David should have done what was expected of him and led his troops to war. Scripture: 2 Samuel 10:-4 Observation: Hanun, son of king Nahash is swayed by his advisors and humiliates David's emissaries. Application: It's important to have wise counselors to help you navigate through the difficult decisions in your life. If Hanun had these trusted men or women that he could have turned to, then tens of thousands of Ammonites would have been spared. Scripture: 2 Samuel 9:1-8 Observation: David keeps his promise to his deceased friend Jonathan. Application: I've learned that doing the right thing, especially when no one is watching, draws us closer to God. Obviously, David learned this lesson too. Scripture: 2 Samuel 8:14b Observation: God gives David military victories over Israel's enemies. Application: If God is for us, then who can be against us. Although the world has changed since David and the Israelites defeated their enemies on the battlefields, human nature has not. There are many who worship false gods and oppose Jesus vehemently. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart... Prayer: Lord, empower us to love You with all of our heart, mind, and soul. Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:16 Observation: David offers a prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord.
