2 Samuel 16 - Day 386 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 2 Samuel 16:5-14 Observation: Shimei, son of Gera, from the clan of Saul's family cursed and accosted David and those with him as they evacuated Jerusalem. Application: Shimei reveals his true feelings when the opportunity presented itself. In the end, he suffers the consequences for his rash judgment but at least he was able to vent his anger. Prayer: Lord, help me to bite my tongue when I want to curse those I dislike... 2 Samuel 15 - Day 385 (link to today's reading)
Scripture:2 Samuel 15:1-6 Observation: Absalom enacts his plan to win the hearts of the people. Application: What went wrong? How could David's life be turned upside down so dramatically? Why, why, why, why, why? The bible tells us that David's descend begins with his adulterous affair with Bathsheba, but actually, the downward spiral started long before. David's children didn't love or know God the way David did. Hence, the coup that's driving out the king into the wilderness, again. Prayer: Lord, please reveal Yourself to my children. Scripture: 2 Samuel 14:25-33 Observation: In his frustration, Absalom takes matters into his own hands. Application: The reason why SOAP operas are so entertaining is because of their unpredictable storylines. Here, Absalom burns his uncle Joab's fields to get his attention. Obviously, there's more than a little dysfunction within the family system here. However, it's always easier to notice what's wrong in someone else's family than it is to fix the problems in ours. Scripture: 2 Samuel 13:3 Observation: Amnon's cousin, Jonadab gives him bad advice. Application: Who needs enemies when you have friends like Jonadab. Choose your friends and associates wisely. Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:13-14 Observation: The Lord is displeased with David and sends Nathan the prophet to confront him. Application: The penalty for sin is death. However, sometimes it's not our death but someone close to us. In this story, David and Bathsheba's innocent infant is sacrificed for their adulterous affair. How have my sins destroyed the lives of those around me? Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner.... |
