1 Corinthians 10 - Day 781 (link to reading)
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:19-31 Observation: Paul explains that our freedom in Christ is not a license to do what we want, but an obligation to do what is best for others so that they may be saved. Application: A good parent will make the necessary sacrifices so that their children are safe and provided for. On the other hand, a selfish parent thinks of themselves first and really couldn't care less about the needs of their offspring. God is a good parent and wants us to follow His example, by treating others the way we want to be treated. Prayer: Lord, help me to love as You love... 1 Corinthians 9 - Day 780 (link to reading)
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 Observation: Paul explains his ministry philosophy to the Corinthians believers. Application: Paul understood that God meets us where we are at and used this same principle to relate to unbelievers. Rather than expect others to raise their standards to meet his expectations, Paul lowered his expectations so he could be more relatable. As Jesus ate with sinners, Paul lived with pagans so he could reach them. Prayer: Lord, please help me to love people as You love them... 1 Corinthians 8 - Day 779 (link to reading)
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 (especially verse 9) Observation: Paul responds to the Corinthian believer's "question about food that has been offered to idols." Application: My wife has the "gift" of poverty. Having gone hungry for most of her childhood (at least that's how she remembers it), she has learned to clip coupons, pinch pennies and go without. She get's a natural "high" whenever she can buy someone at a discount. This was one of the endearing qualities that I found attractive in her. If she lived in Rome at the time this letter was written, she would have been purchasing meat that had been offered to idols because it was on sale. The mature believers understood that there is only one God, the Father, and one Lord, Jesus Christ. In their minds, why pay more for meat when you can buy it at a discount. Yet, in his wisdom, Paul instructs us to "be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble (sin)." Ultimately, our actions are to be inspired by our love for one another. Prayer: Lord, please help me to be "patient and kind" with my neighbors... 1 Corinthians 7 - Day 778 (link to reading)
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 7:25 Observation: Paul reveals that he doesn't have a command from the Lord regarding a specific situation, but is willing to share his wisdom. Application: Sometimes God doesn't give us specific instructions or respond to our request because He's already given us the general guidelines in the bible. That's another reason why it's so important to spend time with God by reading His word. Prayer: Lord, open the eyes of my heart, so I may see You... 1 Corinthians 6 - Day 777 (link to reading)
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:1-7 Observation: Paul rebukes the Corinthian believers for their selfishness and their inability to resolve matters amongst themselves. Application: Living a Godly life is easier said than done. Loving our neighbors as ourselves takes a lot of time, energy, and intentionality. Yet, when we are empowered by the Holy Spirit, the end result is beautiful. Prayer: Lord, I can't do it (love my neighbor as myself) without You. Please help me... |
