1 Chronicles 14 - Day 572 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 14:8-12 Observation: David learns that his enemies have mobilized to capture him so he "marched out to meet them." Application: As the leader leads, the people will follow. David understood that God was in control so he willingly submitted to YHWH's authority and confidently obeyed whatever His Lord instructed him to do. David was able to trust God because he simply did what he has always done over the years as a shepherd boy and while fleeing from Saul. Prayer: Speak Lord, Your servant is listening... 1 Chronicles 13 - Day 571 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 13:12-14 Commentary (enduringword.com): And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that he had: When God’s word was obeyed and His holiness was respected blessing followed. God wanted the ark to be a blessing for Israel, not a curse. We might say that the curse didn’t come from God’s heart but from man’s disobedience. i. Selman believes that the name Obed-Edom the Gittite means that he was from Gath, and the blessing on his house is therefore an example of the undeserved blessing of God, with the Lord displaying His grace to both Obed-Edom and to David. However, it seems better to take the observation of Adam Clarke: “That this man was only a sojourner at Gath, whence he was termed a Gittite, and that he was originally a Levite, is evident from 1 Chronicles 15:17-18.” Application: God blessed Obed-Edom and his household because that's what God does. Obed-Edom didn't do anything to earn God's grace, he simply agreed to care for the Ark of the Covenant. Invite God into your life (daily experiences) and watch and see what He does. Prayer: Lord, be with me today... 1 Chronicles 12 - 570 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 12:38-40 Commentary (preceptaustin.com): beginning with 1Chr 11, the whole of the remaining nineteen chapters of 1 Chronicles are occupied with the reign of David. In these chapters there is no repeating the familiar tale of David's romantic adventures, or of his reign at Hebron, or of his grief over Saul and Jonathan, or of his sin against Bathsheba and Uriah, or of the revolt of Absalom (these, not to mention others, are some of the significant major omissions); but, on the other hand, we are given with great fulness the following matters which are not mentioned in Samuel and Kings - David's abundant preparation of material in advance for the temple (1Chr 22), his preparatory numbering and distributing of the Levites and the priests (1Chr 23-24), his appointment and arrangement of singers and players and porters (1Chr 25:1-26) - all in anticipation of the temple (these, not to mention others, are some of the significant major additions). Application: Remember that Chronicles was written from the priestly perspective, so in these verses, we are reminded of God's goodness and faithfulness in choosing a righteous man to be the King of Israel. The children of God rejoice and pledge their devotion to God's chosen leader. When was the last time I wanted to support a leader like that? Prayer: Lord, I pray for our leaders to know, fear, and serve You with all of their hearts... 1 Chronicles 11 - Day 569 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 11:15-19 Observation: A short story about the exploits of David's Three Mighty Men reveals their sacrificial loyalty to their leader. Application: David's men were willing to risk their lives to fulfill the whimsical longing of their leader. Their actions reveal their love and commitment to the future King of Israel. David, on his part, realizes their sacrifice and consecrates their act of bravery to the Lord. Wow. That's why he was chosen to be King. Prayer: Lord, fulfill Your will in me... 1 Chronicles 10 - Day 568 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 Observation: The author of Chronicles explains "why" the Lord killed Saul and turned the kingdom over to David. Application: The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Saul was given the opportunity to lead but he chose to serve himself and suffered the consequences. Prayer: Lord have mercy on me a sinner... |
