Scripture: Deuteronomy 20:1-9 Observation: Mose instructs the Israelites not to be afraid of their enemies who have horses and chariots and seem to be greater than their own army. Application: Courage is not the absence of fear but pressing forward despite being afraid. The Israelites were instructed to take the land and to trust that their God would go with them and fight for them against their enemies. If God has asked you to do something, trust Him and obey His instructions for He will be with you. Prayer: Lord, lead and I will follow... Deuteronomy 19 - Day 227 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Deuteronomy 19:14-21 Observation: Moses instructs the Israelites to purge "such evil from among you." Application: Evil exists in our world for many reasons, including the fact that consequences are not consistently administered to the guilty parties. However, there will come a day when everyone will be judged for our actions and inactions. Know that the guilty will be judged gives me hope, as well as, an overwhelming sense of dread as I take an inventory of my own life. Prayer: Praise the Lord for You are good. Your unfailing love lasts forever. It is only by Your grace that a sinner like me can even hope to be saved. ReplyForward Deuteronomy 18 - Day 226 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Deuteronomy 18:9-14 Observation: Moses reiterates that the Israelites are not to copy the detestable practices of the Caananites. Application: As a child of God we don't need a lucky charm or to consult fortune tellers to be blessed. God is our refuge and we will find our security in HIm, and Him alone. We can trust Him for all of our needs. Prayer: Lord, please help me to remember that You are always with me. Deuteronomy 17 - Day 225 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Deuteronomy 17:1 Observation: Moses continues his discourse and inserts verse 17:1 out of nowhere to remind us of who God is. Application: God deserves our very best of everything, not just our offerings. He deserves our best effort, all of our affection, complete obedience, and anything else you can think of. Not because he demands this but because of who He is and the love He has shown to us. Prayer: Lord, teach me to love You more. Deuteronomy 16 - Day 224 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Deuteronomy 16:1-17 Observation: Moses reminds the Israelites to celebrate the Passover, Festival of Harvest, and Shelters. Application: The three annual festivals required the Israelites to gather together as one people to worship and give thanks to their God. The festivals were also times for extended families to eat, drink, celebrate and catch up with one another. Gd intentionally scheduled these times of rest and relaxation into the Israelite's schedule as part of their rhythm of life. Prayer: Lord, thank You for the reminder that rest and relaxation are important too. |
