2 Chronicles 10 - Day 615 (link to reading)
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 10:15-16 Observation: Solomon's son Rehoboam becomes the next king of Israel but is rejected by the 10 Northern tribes. Application: The Northern tribes rebel against the harsh living conditions that are imposed upon them by David's grandson, Rehoboam. Yet, notice that the unruly crowd still calls it "David's dynasty." Based on the bible's description of David's leadership, I doubt that he would have made the same rash decision as Rehoboam did. Rehoboam should not have been the next king but 2 Chronicles 10 reveals that this was all part of God's will and this is what happens when we stray from obeying Him. Prayer: Lord, have mercy and give us leaders who are devoted to You... 2 Chronicles 9 - Day 614 (link to reading)
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 9:5-6 Observation: The Queen of Sheba (Ethiopia?) hears of Solomon's fame and decides to visit Jerusalem for herself. Application: The Queen came to investigate what she had heard for herself. After meeting Solomon, she declares that his wisdom is far beyond what she was told. She had to see it to believe it. Jesus said that would be expected, but blessed are those who believe, without even seeing. Prayer: Lord, help my unbelief... 2 Chronicles 8 - Day 613 (link to reading)
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 8:11 Observation: Solomon moved his pagan wife to the new palace he had built for her. Application: Solomon understood that his Egyptian wife was "unclean" so he built a new palace for her to live in. Huh. As humans, we're all susceptible to compromising our values. The key is to be just as willing to confess and repent of our sins. Prayer: Lord, have mercy on me a sinner... 2 Chronicles 7 - Day 612 (link to reading)
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:12-20 Observation: After the dedication of the Temple, the Lord appeared to Solomon again and graciously answered the king's request to make provisions for the people when they sinned. Note that YHWH doesn't include Solomon or his heirs in these provisions. Application: Our choices have consequences that affect other people in profound and lasting ways. Solomon's sin ripped the nation apart and caused irreparable damage to the nation. Though we may not have the same power and authority Solomon had, we are accountable for our family and friends. Choose to love them to God's very best for their lives. Prayer: Lord, thy will be done... 2 Chronicles 6 - Day 611 (link to reading)
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 6:36-39 Observation: Solomon dedicates the Temple of God by praising YHWH's omnipotence and concludes by reminding everyone of His mercies. Application: Solomon acknowledges and reminds everyone present that all humans sin against God, so when they do fall short of His expectations, plead for mercy. Unfortunately, later in the NT, the Pharisees disregarded Solomon's reminder and created a religious system that separated God from His children. Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner... |
