Isaiah 48 - Day 534 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Isaiah 48:1-8 Commentary (melissabeaty.com): God's grace is such that He will call to repentance those who He knows will not respond to Him. He loves us so much that even when we neglect Him He tries to save us...So, why do we have to go visit the hardhearted who God knows will not repent? Because God loves that person so much that He wants that person to hear the truth anyway. God has a serious complaint against his people. Although they use His name, they do not use it in righteousness, meaning that they use him as a curse word or a by word. Blasphemy is to take that which is holy and to make it ordinary; using the Lord's name as an ordinary word instead of only when addressing Him is a form of blasphemy. Application: I'm ashamed to admit that prior to my conversion, I swore a lot, often using our Lord's name in vain. When I came to the realization of that Jesus is God and he came to same me, I was worried that I would continue to use his name in vain because of my habit. Amazingly, my cussing stopped (for the most part) and I don't remember using my Lord's name in vain. The Holy Spirit, who lives in me loves Jesus more than I ever could and He is teaching me to do the same. The Israeltites were using God's name in vain because they were not connected to Him. Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on us sinners... Comments are closed.
