Proverbs 24 - Day 491 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: Proverbs 24:17-22 Commentary: The explicit theology of this instruction occurs in the second prohibition: Yahweh is displeased when one rejoices over the fall of one’s enemies (24:17–18). It is Yahweh who oversees the just order of society, which has its grounding in the righteousness of the cosmos. Yahweh is the one who will see to it that the enemies of the righteous receive their punishment. Consequently, it is wrong for the wise youth to rejoice over the fall of their enemies. Gloating is a vice that is to be avoided even when one’s enemies suffer. Perdue, L. G. (2000). Proverbs (pp. 214–215). Louisville, KY: John Knox Press. Application: Life is too short to hold grudges and hope that bad people will suffer the consequences in our lifetime. This text reminds me to be gracious since I have received grace. Prayer: Lord, help me to be Your conduit of love and grace... Comments are closed.
