Exodus 22 - Day 75 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Genesis 22: Observation: God provides Moses guidelines of what to do when... Application: When my children were younger, I spent a lot of time modeling, explaining, and correcting their behavior to help them understand what was acceptable and what was not appropriate in our household. The reason why I needed to teach them the difference between right and wrong was because they were young and needed guidance. Remember that the Israelites have been slaves for many, many years and that their new freedom will give them opportunities to make bad choices. God is helping them succeed by giving them these simple guidelines. Prayer: Lord, thank You for wanting the best for us. Exodus 21 - Day 74 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 21:1 Commentary: The conclusion to the Book of the Covenant, like its beginning, summarizes its point and its emphasis and links it unmistakably to the Decalogue that is its root Like the Decalogue, the Book of the Covenant is presented as Yahweh’s expectation of Israel (see Explanation on 20:1–17). The “guiding principles,” the commands, the prohibitions that make up the collection that is Exod 20:23–23:19 are all to the end that the integrity of Israel’s relationship to Yahweh be guaranteed. The Decalogue begins with the command that Israel have no god other than Yahweh. The Book of the Covenant begins (20:23) and ends (23:32–33) with that same command, and all that lies between that beginning and that ending is designed to assure its obedience. Durham, J. I. (1987). Exodus (Vol. 3, pp. 336–337). Dallas: Word, Incorporated. Application: What God expected from the Israelites so long ago, still applies to us today. Prayer: Lord, search my heart and purge anything that's keeping me from fully loving You. ReplyForward Exodus 20 - Day 73 (link to daily reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 20 Observation: God gives the Israelites 10 commandments to help guide them through life and their relationships. Application: The purpose of having rules is to establish a system so individuals and communities can live in harmony with one another. The less you know your community, the more rules you'll need. Prayer: Lord, thank You for setting clear boundaries for me. Exodus 19 - Day 72 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 19:3-6 Observation: God communicates the terms and expectations of His relationship with the Israelites. Application: Every relationship has some form of responsibilities that come with the relationship. Parents care for their children and in return, children obey their parents. An employee fulfills her duties and her employer compensates her. Our government administrates policies for the well-being of its citizens and they in return pay taxes. Every relationship has responsibilities. God invites us into a relationship with Him and in return, we are to love Him with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me into a relationship with You. Please help me to fulfill my part of the covenant. Exodus 18 - Day 71 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Exodus 18:13-26 Observation: Jethro, Moses' father-in-law comes to visit him in the desert and gives him sound advice to help lead the people. Application: God never intended for us to do everything by ourselves. He created us to live and work in a community with others and it's because of these arrangements that we learn to be leaders and to become emotionally mature. Prayer: Lord, thank You for creating us to live in a community with others. Please help us to love, and learn, and be sanctified in our interactions with others. |
