Numbers 12 - Day 171 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Numbers 12:1-16 Observation: Moses' siblings criticize him for marrying a Cushite woman and then take it a step further by inflating their importance. God immediately confronts their arrogance and disciplines Miriam. Application: Moses didn't try to defend himself. Instead he kept his mouth shut and let God take care of the situation. Prayer: Lord, forgive me for thinking evil of Your chosen vessels. Numbers 11 - Day 170 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Numbers 11:16-29 Observation: As the people complain to Moses, he cries out to the Lord. Application: Challenges provide opportunities for leaders to step up and prove themselves. In Moses' frustration, he asks God for help and the Lord delivers by promising to anoint 70 assistants with His Holy Spirit. When 2 leaders receive the gift of prophesy, Joshua objects but Moses reveals his true character by professing his wish that all the Lord's people were prophets. Prayer: Lord, may all Your people prophesy and represent You as Holy and blameless. Numbers 10 - Day 169 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Numbers 10:33-36 Commentary: Moses’ words express two key biblical themes: the victory of the Lord over his enemies; and the abiding presence of God with his people. These were displayed as the ark set out, and as it came to rest again in the centre of the camp. Since this was the supreme climax of almost one year’s preparation (Ex. 19:1), we must pay careful attention to it. Naylor, P. J. (1994). Numbers. In D. A. Carson, R. T. France, J. A. Motyer, & G. J. Wenham (Eds.), New Bible commentary: 21st century edition (4th ed., p. 179). Leicester, England; Downers Grove, IL: Inter-Varsity Press. Application: God leads the way and clears the path for us so instead of running ahead of Him, learn to follow. Prayer: Lord, please help me to recognize Your presence so I can discern the direction You are leading me. Numbers 9 - Day 168 (link to reading plan)
Scripture: Numbers 9:6-12 Observation: While celebrating the Passover, some men who had inadvertently become ceremonially unclean, approached Moses to inquire, "What about us?" Application: God cares. He isn't some heartless entity that is only concerned about people following His rules. No. God meets us where we are and understands that sometimes circumstances are beyond our control so He works with us. Prayer: Lord, thank You for accommodating our desire to worship You. Scripture: Numbers 8:23-26 Commentary: Finally the age of service for Levites is fixed as twenty-five to fifty (vv 23–26). The older Levitical tradition about the age at which service is to begin (Num 4:3) is thus extended, probably in the light of contemporary need. With the question of pedigree paramount in post-exilic times, properly authenticated Levites may have been at a premium. The earlier tradition had been so closely tied to the Levitical census in Num 4 that it was possible to approach the issue of service directly at this point, and to give a different and definitive age at which it was proper for service to begin. It was appropriate enough to add this note after the rite for the cleansing of Levites had been described. Budd, P. J. (1984). Numbers (Vol. 5, p. 94). Dallas: Word, Incorporated. Application: There is more to life than just working, even in ministry. However, even in retirement, we are to keep active and be useful. God prescribed retirement as a natural season of life that was intended to be enjoyed while remaining engaged. Prayer: Lord, thank You for keeping us involved in the work of ministry regardless of our age. |
