1 Samuel 27 - Day 361 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Samuel 27:1-12 Observation: In order to protect himself and his followers, David thinks out of the box and escapes by living with the Philistines. Application: Sometimes the answer is right in front of us but in order for it to work, you need to take a risk that is outside of your comfort zone. That's precisely when it's time to put your faith in God and trust that He's in control and knows what He's doing. Prayer: Lord, help my unbelief... 1 Samuel 26 - Day 360 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Samuel 26:21 Observation: David spares Saul's life a second time. Application: I've been told that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Saul was insane because he was tormented by an evil spirit. David, on the other hand, was insanely in love with God and His commandments so he was willing to subject himself to undue risks and hardships. Wow. Prayer: Lord, help me to live with integrity like Jesus... 1 Samuel 25 - Day 359 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Samuel 25:32-35 Observation: Abigail, Nabal's wife, intercedes for her husband and saves his life. Application: The book of Proverbs tells us that a good wife is a gift from the Lord. Abigail learns of her husband's reckless response and wisely intercepts David and his army to apologize for Nabal's stupidity. Her prudent mediation saves her household but ironically, Nabal dies the next day. Prayer: Lord, thank You for my good wife... 1 Samuel 24 - Day 358 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Samuel 24:1-22 Observation: God provides David an opportunity to kill Saul but instead of taking it, he spares his enemy's life. Application: Just because a door is open doesn't mean that you need to (or should) walk through it. David wisely spares Saul's life and exhibits the qualities of a leader that God is looking for. Prayer: Lord, help me to quiet the voices in my head that tell me to... 1 Samuel 23 - Day 357 (link to today's reading)
Scripture: 1 Samuel 23:1-12 Observation: The Lord instructs David to attack the Philistines at Keilah but then confirms that the leaders of the town would betray him to Saul. Application: Life's not fair but God never said that it would be. David sought the Lord's instructions and obeyed regardless of the outcome. Prayer: Lord, have Your way in and through me... |
